My faith is secure. What about you?

My support of the First Amendment and a Muslim’s right to practice their faith does not come by way of liberalism, but liberty. After all, it is the basic founding principle of liberty itself. The right of all Americans to practice religion without the interference of big government.

Terry Jones has taken an already volatile situation and made it worse. If Mr. Jones burns those Qurans – like Adolf Hitler would do – you can bet a years salary that there will be blowback, and it won’t be pretty.

We’ve seen riots and protests, in and outside of New York City. A mosque was set ablaze by arson, reminding us of the days of the civil rights movement. A NYC cabbie almost lost his life because of being Muslim, and we watched the media turn it into a political freak show.

Muslims don’t believe in Jesus, that’s true. But neither do Buddists, Hindu’s, athiests, or Scientologists, and little fanfare is given to them. Maybe that’s because Muslim’s are the ‘in thing’ now. First, it was the Nazi’s, then the communists and the Red Scare, Cuba, Vietnam, now its the Muslim’s turn. Twenty years from now it will be something else.

In the newest episode of the O’Reilly Factor (9/9/2010) Mr. O’Reilly went on a binge of blaming Islam for virtually…well…everything.

“Right now, there are more than 100 mosques in New York City so there’s no religious tolerance issue here or in most other parts of America.

“There is, however, a big religious tolerance problem in most Muslim countries as they don’t accept ANY other religion. By placing the proposed mosque within yards (two blocks, not yards) of the 9/11 attack, with no stated purpose for that, the imam has created a controversy. He did it! There’s simply no reason for the mosque to be there.

“Sincere Muslims should respect (the objections of 9/11 families). Talking Points believes that tolerance deal swings both ways, right?  Seems every two minutes some Muslims are offended by America. Yeah! We have some kooks here who are disrespectful to Islam. But every nation has them. It is long past time for the Muslim world to show a little respect and tolerance to America!”

Bill O’Reilly just like Sean Hannity doesn’t understand the world in the ‘big picture.’  Muslims could say the same for us.  Obviously O’Reilly has forgotten the United States’ past with Iraq.  In the 1990s sanctions imposed by the U.S. and the U.N. cost the lives of over 500,000 innocent Iraqis.

The 1998 bombing was eggregious at best, hit alot of harmless targets and cost scores of – once again – innocent lives.  This is a period of time in the history of the United States where Madeline Albright went on 60 Minutes and said the lives lost due to sanctions were “worth it.”

Iraq was never worth the sweat, blood and tears that cost the American soldier and their families.  Something has to be said for the status quo when in 2008 Ron Paul raised the most money from active military.

A stark reality that Mr. O’Reilly has never seemed to grasp is that our foreign policy has repicusions, and those repicusions cause hatred to the United States.  Torture and its grotesqueness never seems to seep into the cerebrum of the likes of Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck, Coulter, or Malkin.  All of which, by the way, have never served time in the military.

My faith comes from the word God and through the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Some – not all – Christians who are outraged by the “Ground Zero Mosque”, I think, have a serious insecurity problem of their own.

  1. If I want to be free as a follower of Jesus then I have to support the freedom of other religions! I think the mosque being built near ground zero is not nearly as big of a deal as some people are making it. What irritates me about it is the fuzzy money trail that is funding it! That aside, I think some Americans are uncomfortable with Muslims because of 9/11. Prior to that you did not see the kind of hatred that we see today. It is sad that a few nut cases can cause so many problems!
