Fox News’ Kristol says the U.S. should strike Iran first

It’s not like the U.S. military or our economy is stretched to the hilt already.  It’s not like we are fighting conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Pakistan.  During the 2008 and presidential Republican debates, canidates called for nuclear war on Iran.  As dubious as this sounds it has been repeated several times.

Only one thing comes from nuclear war: Mutual Assured Destruction.  If you nuke someone, someone will nuke you back.  Neoconservative Kristol had this to say:

“I think we have to have a credible threat of force and the preparation to use force against Iran. It would be much better if we used force against — to delay the Iranian nuclear program than if Israel did and there is no evidence that the US government is being at all serious about the use force there,” Kristol told Fox News’ Chris Wallace Sunday.

Fear not, no one is seriously thinking of attacking Iran. Talking Heads just like to say things like that to get the right-wingers all jazzed up and sell books. Only the gun-totting, whiskey-drinking, Glenn Beck-worshipping crowd really believes that attacking Iran is either feasible or logical in the slightest. We may not like Iran (because we are generally scared of people who aren’t just like us), but they are still a modern country with a democratically elected government and a powerful military, who have so far not threatened America in any way. We have little or no reason to attack them and if we did so we would permenantly ruin our chances of peace in our time. Again, don’t listen to the Hawks, they just want the redneck vote in the next election.
