This may be one of the few times I agree with President Obama. As most of us know, in a split decision by the Supreme Court (5-4), the ruling struck down restrictions of corporations to give to election campaigns.
I can’t think of anything more devastating to the public interest. The last thing we need to do is hand more influence to the lobbyists in Washington, or more power to the special interests to tip the outcome of the elections.
Bravo, Mr. President! However, in a city where a politician can say one thing one day and another the next, and the majority of Americans forget, I don’t think that this holds much weight. Unless, of course, the president decides to try to do something.
But it’s not only election contributions that need reforming and restriction, also, the presidential election needs to be opened to a broader audience. Third parties need to be allowed into the races and debates, thusly, opening debate and forcing the Republican party to realign with their true philosophy.
