As you read down this, I know what you’re thinking, this can’t be possible. A cruise ship docking off the coast of Haiti? A nation torn apart from the earthquake where the death toll continues to rise.
Many vacationers were apalled. One in particular took to the internet by saying this on a message board, “tens of thousands of dead people are being piled up on the streets, with the survivors stunned and looking for food and water.”
But it is true. The Florida-based Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines ship decided to resume its docking rules in Labadee bay to not only transport aid, but it has great importance to local citizens.
We also have tremendous opportunities to use our ships as transport vessels for relief supplies and personnel to Haiti, said associate vice president John Weis. Simply put, we cannot abandon Haiti now that they need us most.
Well, that’s wonderful Mr. Weis, but how about next time you use a ship that’s not filled with passengers that are not ready for a good time in the midst of sorrow.
